How Verve gets data right
Dec 8, 2025
When you have strict dietary needs, one bad ingredient can ruin your day—or your week. We know the feeling. It’s why we built Verve.
Between the three of us—Jason, Anthony, and I—dietary restrictions are a daily part of life. I follow a strict low-FODMAP diet. If I slip up, I’m wrecked for days.
So when we say data accuracy matters to us, we mean it.

Here’s how we make sure the products you see on Verve match the needs you’ve told us about:
1. We start with industry-grade product data
We partner with SPINS and Syndigo—the top food data providers in the U.S. They gather detailed product info in two ways:
From manufacturers: brands submit their product photos, nutrition info, and certifications.
From store shelves: teams visit grocery aisles and photograph products directly.
Every image gets scanned and analyzed, then double-checked through a QA process. The result? Ingredient and nutrition data with ~99% accuracy.
Are there occasional mistakes? Yes. But we’ve designed our systems to catch and correct most issues before they reach you.
2. We stay current
Products change. Formulas get tweaked. New items hit shelves.
To stay ahead, our data partners regularly refresh product info, re-scan shelves, and re-ingest manufacturer updates. When they slip, we catch it. If you ever spot outdated info, let us know—we’ll fix it fast and refund the item.
Your feedback makes the system stronger for everyone.
3. We don’t guess on dietary tags
“Vegan” and “Certified Gluten-Free” are easy when there’s a certification. But many dietary needs go deeper.
To handle that, our data providers work with dietitians and nutrition scientists to build logic-based algorithms. These assess each product’s ingredients and nutrition facts to determine if they align with diets like keto, low-FODMAP, Mediterranean, and more.
It’s not just “Is milk listed?”—it’s “How many net available carbs are in a serving?” or “Does this ingredient count as a FODMAP trigger?”
Even with smart systems, edge cases exist. Misspellings, vague ingredient names, or evolving definitions can cause rare errors. But our derived attributes still hit ~99% accuracy.
4. We match what’s in stores to what you need
When you shop on Verve, we match your dietary profile to the products available at your local store. That sounds simple. It’s not.
Every day, we cross-reference store inventory UPCs with our enriched product data to make sure what you see is what’s actually on the shelf. But real-world inventory gets messy—like reused UPCs on deli items or mislabeled store brands. Most of that noise gets caught before it reaches you. If something slips through, we’ll fix it fast—and make it right with a refund.
5. We know the human element still matters
Even with accurate data and good matching, someone still has to pick your groceries.
Most stores use trained pickers and smart systems—but humans make mistakes. A mislabeled bag. A swap that wasn’t flagged. It happens.
That’s why we recommend a quick confirmation check when your order arrives—especially if your needs are strict. If something’s off, let us know. We’ll make it right.

Why we’re so serious about this
Because when your health is on the line, every ingredient matters. And we’re here to make sure you don’t have to second-guess.
We’re not perfect. But we’re relentless. And we’re building Verve to be the most trustworthy, personalized way to grocery shop—because we live with the same needs you do.
Thanks for being part of this with us.
